I like nature and try to do my part in preserving our ecosystem. One of the ways I’ve always helped is by running my business as paper-free as possible, and telecommuting for most of my appointments. I also practice corporate social responsibility. But I wanted to learn and do more.
In the northern California Bay Area, there is an organization called the Bay Area Green Business Program. Through that portal, I found the Marin County Sustainability Team where I took my company Inspiration, Inc. through the process of becoming a Certified Green Business.
The process was relatively easy because I’m already “green.” First, I downloaded a PDF called “Five Steps to Becoming a Green Business.” Then my personal assistant Suzie Short, now deemed my “Green Business Coordinator,” went through all of our procedures to make sure we are green-compliant. Then we submitted our application to Dana Armanino in the Marin County office to schedule an inspection. She has the most positive energy! Not only did she approve our green business certification, but she gave me a few more tips, such as turning the printer off when not in use. Simple!
We received our official “Congratulations on Your Certification,” letter today…by email. Paper-free, of course! Then on Tuesday August 15th we’ll get to walk the stage at our award ceremony.
If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, then it’s easy for you to appy for certification through the numerous links above. Please join me in this! Even the smallest home-based office can apply! And if you’re outside the northern California area, try Googling for it or checking sites such as GreenBiz.com or SustainableBusiness.com.
